Try this sand shot idea this weekend

I don’t care what you do, just do these two things.

The bounce/flange on the back of the club needs to hit the sand first. However you can get that done.

Take a dollar bill worth of sand out of the bunker and the ball is George Washington.

Monte, your first tip is exactly what finally turned my sand game around towards the end of my 2011 season. I decided to try this after hearing Johnny Miller talk repeatedly about the “THUMP” of the sand wedge upon contact of the sand.

What I do now is simply slap the underside of the sand wedge 1 or 2 inches behind the ball.

Trying to finesse the depth of the slice of sand I wanted to remove was my previous method and was always unpredictable… and stressful.

Now, I simply thump the underside/bouce of the SW behind the ball.

I’m shocked. Johnny Miller said something helpful on TV?

Miller says a lot of good things. he won US Open once and you dont do that without knowing how to play the game.

He was a great player and played great golf, but he says some awful things that are completely wrong.

For me that only shows how even good players have little to no depth in understanding what happens in golf.
