The misnomers of my ideas on release

I DO NOT believe in an active release with the hands and arms.

I know it seems that way. I am a believer in a natural release that will occur if you don’t prevent it. All my videos, drills and blog articles are trying to explain is the motion that is created naturally if you allow it.

The plane and release by feel video is an example of what I am talking about.

These are the movements that happen if you understand what they are and you allow them to happen.

The best way I can analogize this is to describe someone who injures themselves and walks with a limp for a period of time. The limp becomes their default way of walking…natural and automatic.

In order to walk without a limp, one must retrain themselves in the natural way of doing it until it becomes automatic. I have been swinging the golf club with a limp for more years than I can count and am trying to learn to walk again.

In other words, there might be some active action on the range for a period of time to retrain your body.

I hate to break it to all of you, but there is no such thing as a golf swing devoid of timing. So you might as well pick the one that is the way your body moves naturally.

OK, the way my body moves naturally: Kick the trail elbow off my body with a trail side turn, fling the club over my trail shoulder and pull through with my left side. Think it will work?

Yes and no. On paper that will probably not work. However, feeling like you do those things could produce good movements and good strikes.

🙂 I’ll let you know. I don’t think I’ve ever tried to do what comes naturally. Of course given is a stance within the confines of adequate and a neutral hand and ball position. The clubhead goes back slightly outside my hands if I don’t manipulate it with my hands. So “naturally” is just those things in my first post with no un-natural manipulation added.

Let me distinguish between what your body wants to do naturally and what strange gyrations you have decided to so automatically.

        Two different things. 😀

I had a bad motorcycle accident & almost got killed playing college football so my body doesn’t “move naturally”.
Maybe that’s why my right arm “folds” a little to much on my backswing. (lefty here) It hurts my right shoulder like heck to try to keep it too straight. Plus I’m 55………

I think everyone should buy a V Harness and everyone would then have the perfect swing. All you have to do is use that thing and you will be winning your club championship in no time.

No thanks. Besides, You could make one for 98 cents and a piece of rope and find out for cheap that it won’t work.

Come on Calvin… you know you want to try it.

I’m just joking…. that thing is ridiculous.

Grahame Mcdowell does that same level plane swing during his warm-up.

Jimenez seems to do a nice horizontal on plane swing before every shot. The funny thing is that almost all the “pundits” on the box wonder why he is doing this.
