Fixing 68-B

Let’s start with what worked for the guy in the photo.

Throw away all the angle in the right wrist from the top. Yes, that’s right, the anti-lag move. Guess what happens? The right arm speeds up, the body speeds up in reaction and you get lag and shaft lean as a result. Most of the swing is counterintuitive, so in that context, this makes sense.

Here is a video explaining some of this.

So, in order for the right wrist cast drill portion to work there cannot be arm overrun?

      Great question.

As an arm overunner myself I’m keen to know the answer.

That is not always true, but it’s a good way to approach it.

Meaning even with an arm overrun throwing the right wrist from the top will result in good things?

…but it’s better obviously not to have an overrun?

What is a thought(s) to get the hand path working UP instead of IN at the start of the backswing for a right-hander? I’ve been using “extend left arm parallel to target line” which seems to keep me from sucking the club in behind me, but is there a better way?

Of course in my latest lesson my local pro wants me working on bowing the left wrist from the top to fix my flip and shallow. My head is going to explode.

You can’t fix a flip that way. That is working on the effect and not teh cause. You fix the reason why the flip is happening.

      1. Swing too long
      2. Upper body getting too far ward
      3. Too far from the inside
      4. Arms trailing for whatever reason…etc.

Today’s drill speed up the arms to get them more fonward.

Right or wrong to feel like Im kind of slapping the ball with right hand at impact? Thats what it feel like when I throw right wrist away the angle from top.

This is a classic video- the cool thing is, what other instructor has this unique “outside the box” way of addressing faults? Another one that hits home for me…especially being taught in my youth (1980’s) to “TURN!!! Make a shoulder turn!!!
Monte- on a side note- your thoughts on Amy Yang’s swing?? Thanks!

    Monte on the downswing,
    1. Can the cast move be shallow if I keep my spine tilt away?
    2. Can the cast move be used on a full driver swing?

      1. Yes.
      2. Yes, but some aren’t as successful as with shorter clubs.

Absolutely awesome drill/feel… It enhanced my iron play so much. Is there any similar drill/feel to link up the body for a driver swing? Thanks for the great work!
