Mickelson out of the British Open

Both fans and players are disappointed that Phil Mickelson has pulled out of the British Open to spend time with his wife while she recovers from breast cancer treatment.

Fans are disappointed because one of their favorites is not there to watch and root for.

Players are disappointed because Phil’s replacement in the field is the molasses paced, slowest player on Tour, Ben Crane.

The length of rounds in front of Crane, approximately 4 hours. The length of rounds behind him, the orbit of Haley’s Comet.

Question: how are “replacement” players chosen? (i.e., whose idea was this???)

      Welcome Linda 🙂

The PGA has a list they use to fill every tournament and it is a priority list.

      1. winners of majors the last 5 years
      2. winners of any event the last 2 years.

etc. and there are over 20 categories like this.

The list for the British Open is even more complicated as it involves the European Tour as well.
